Volunteers and staff have been busy getting ready for an exciting Saturday coming up on January 21st - all three floors will be buzzing with activity.
We're kicking off the year of Poughkeepsie Prints! community printmaking workshops with an opportunity for folks to try their hands at Japanese marbling, or suminagashi. Participants can create their own bandanna and colorful marbled paper for bookmarks or other crafty projects.
And from 3-6 p.m., the triple "X" marks the spot at the opening reception for our first two exhibitions of 2017: the Juried Members' Show and Photowork '17, which is celebrating three decades at BAC. (Hence the three roman numeral Xs in our promotional signs.)
Juror Lynn Palumbo spent hours reviewing the submissions for the Juried Members’ Show earlier this week, finally deciding on 26 works that fit together in a vibrant showcase of our members' artistic interests and talents.
On Saturday, we hope you'll stop by to see these great shows for yourself, and to enter drawings for one of an array of photo-centric prizes, including home goods and coffee from Poughkeepsie's own North River Roasters.
Look for the XXX marking the spot at 55 Noxon Street on Saturday - come celebrate creativity at Barrett!
In the main galleries, we've taken on some unconventional installations to bring together three jurors' takes on the state of the field of contemporary photography. Artwork: Brooks Dierdorff, Remnant.
