We the People: Political Art in an Age of  Discord is a national juried art exhibition that invites artistic expressions of the political. Established and emerging artists are encouraged to submit artworks that engage with a variety of political themes and viewpoints, from the local to the global

JUROR: Michelle Legro

 Juror Michelle Legro was previously Culture Editor at The New Republic, where she chronicled the 2016 Presidential Campaign in articles "Four Days in Cleveland" and "Four Days in Philadelphia". Ms. Legro is a contributor to The Guardian, Tin House, The Believer, Guernica, and Brain Pickings.  She is the editor of Longreads and is the former Senior Editor at Lapham's Quarterly.

No exceptions will be made for late deliveries.

Exhibition Dates: July 8 – August 12, 2017

Opening Reception: Saturday, July 8, 2017, 3:00 – 6:00 p.m.

Drawing, painting, pastel, printmaking, photography, digital art, sculpture, fiber, mixed-media works are eligible. We seek 2-D and 3-D artworks as well as small installations that can be accommodated in our atypical venue: the intimate galleries of our landmark 1840's Greek Revival townhouse. Historically used as domestic spaces, our galleries provide a dramatic, visually-compelling presentation of contemporary and cutting-edge work.

BAC is located two hours north of New York City in Poughkeepsie, New York. Each year, BAC hosts four premier national juried exhibitions that showcase the work of established and emerging artists working in an array of medium and genres. Past BAC national show jurors include renowned curators from leading art institutions across the U.S.

Juried from actual works of art.  Members may submit 1-3 artworks for consideration. In the case of works composed of more than one separate element, a diagram clearly showing the proper display of the elements must be included with the submission; also the height/width/depth of the entire piece may not exceed maximum dimensions if such a restriction is listed in the prospectus.

Only original work submitted in display condition will be considered. Frames must be ready for hanging wired so that the hanger doesn’t show with wire adequate for the weight of the piece. Extremely fragile pieces, pieces with poorly secured elements, paint that is not yet dried, unstable frames or hanging supports, or loose glass will be disqualified automatically Please inquire with questions prior to submission day.

All members submitting work must have a current active membership for the duration of the exhibitions.

Works shown in Crenson Gallery Juried Members’ Shows may not be re-submitted for another Crenson Gallery Juried Members’ Show. Works that have been on display at BAC previously may be submitted for Crenson Gallery Juried Members’ Shows.  

Submission Dates and Times: Works must be submitted between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. on Monday April 3. Artists may appoint a friend or other agent to drop-off and/or pick-up works if they are unable to do these tasks themselves.  The agent or friend will need to sign for the works. If an artist or a proxy is unable to bring work to BAC on Monday, work may be submitted on the preceding Saturday from Noon to 3:00 p.m. with by appointment only. Call BAC 1 week ahead of drop-off to make the necessary arrangements.

Notice of Acceptance: a list of the names of artists and works that have been juried into a show will be accessible by telephone and/or via e-mail notification after 4pm on the Wednesday following submission.

Pick-up Dates and Times: For works not juried into a show - please pick up work between 10:30  and 2:30 p.m. the Thursday following submission. For works juried into a show - please pick up work between Noon and 5pm the Monday following the close of the show.
