Christopher Seubert (F04)
Drawing and Painting the Portrait

Class will begin working with charcoal and paper, focusing on proportion, anatomy & dimensionality; then, carrying these ideas onto the canvas to develop an underpainting using the wipe-out technique and a monochromatic palette. Developing an accurate likeness will be accomplished by measuring, comparing proportion, and studying the features of the human face. On top of the under painting will be “glaze and scumble” with a limited palette to create depth, volume and a resemblance of flesh. These concepts will be explored through class demonstrations, lectures and studying artists’ works. Students of all levels welcome.
