About the juror:
Susan Cross has been Curator at MASS MoCA since 2005. Prior to that, she spent 10 years at the Guggenheim Museum in NYC, where she organized The Eye of the Storm: works in situ by Daniel Buren. Other major shows that she curated during her time there include Bruce Nauman: Theaters of Experience for Deutsche Guggenheim Berlin, and The Hugo Boss Prize 2002: Pierre Huyghe. Cross earned her BA from the University of Virginia and is a graduate of the Williams College Graduate Frogram in Art History at the Clark.

at Locust Grove: The Samuel Morse Estate

Here's how it works:
100 donated works of art by some of our area’s most popular artists will be
raffled off on February 11th starting at 4:00pm.
Only 100 all-inclusive tickets at $100 each will be sold for admittance to this special raffle event. A ticket entitles the holder to admission for two people, cocktails and hors d'oeuvres, and one work of art.
Ticket numbers will be drawn at random from a box and as the numbers are drawn the chosen ticket holder will select and take home any available piece of artwork he or she chooses from the wall. As the numbers are drawn the amount of pieces available will get smaller and smaller until all pieces are raffled off.

Drawing Class in Millbrook!

The Fountains at Millbrook offers Barrett School of Art classes in their wonderful art studio.

The Art of Drawing with Leslie Bender
Tuesdays, March 13th, 20th, 27th, April 3rd.
2:00 – 4:00 PM

Experience the excitement of drawing using realism, abstraction, and imagination. Exploring composition and analysis of line and form, students crate dynamic artworks from still life and photographs. All levels of skills welcome.

ABOUT LESLIE: Leslie’s paintings, drawings and prints have been shown in museums across the United States, and are in collections around the world. Her political prints were included in both the Whitney Downtown exhibit “MetaManhattan” in 1984 and The Museum of Modern Art “Committed To Print”.

Space for Rent

Barrett Clay Works, at 485 Main Street, Poughkeepsie, is a well-equipped art center with two floors focusing especially on the ceramic arts, a third floor for painters, printmakers & writers, etc, and a gallery for solo & group shows and sales. Expand your abilities with advanced lessons taught on site and by inspiring each other. Communal ceramic equipment includes worktables, wedging boards, electric potters' wheels, slab roller, extruder, electric and gas kilns, and glaze mixing room. For access to the communal ceramics equipment simply drop by during our daily Open Studio hours.

For your added convenience, potters can rent a rack of shelves in the communal ceramics studio space (second floor) for $75 per month; keep your clay, personal tools and works in progress at Clay Works.

For the serious artist, we also offer semi-private and private studio spaces (second and third floors) from $150 to $300/month. These feature 24/7- access with Wi-Fi, public computer terminals, kitchenette privileges, bathrooms & shower (but not for living). Free parking with easy access to Rte. 9, 44 and 55. Close to art supply store, convenience store and restaurants.

Dunkin' Donuts congratulates Barrett School of Art student, Brianne Seipp for winning the Tri-State area "Donut Art" competition. Ms. Seipp's design is a watercolor painting she created in Keith Gunderson's Studio Techniques, Watercolor and Pastel Class. In addition to her design being featured on a limited-edition top of the six-count donut box, a $5,000 grant will be awarded to Barrett Art Center during the ceremony at a Dunkin' Donuts in Poughkeepsie, NY

Poughkeepsie Art Celebrations
Art Along the Hudson


Poughkeepsie celebrates arts and culture throughout the year at its museums, galleries, theaters and alternative spaces with art
exhibitions, performances, dance,
music and other special events.

Poughkeepsie has over 30 murals,
70 sculptures, many historic sites and
fine dining establishments throughout
the city and town.

Most openings fall on the third Saturday
of each month, also known as Art Hop.

The Barrett Art Center (BAC) was founded in 1934, as the Dutchess County Art Association, by American regionalist and noted local painter, Thomas Weeks Barrett, Jr. and has grown from a loosely organized group of artists to a 485 member organization with an exhibition facility and art school and studios for both adults and children. BAC was incorporated as a nonprofit organization in 1948.
