January 21 – March 4, 2017

 Opening Reception: Saturday, January 21, 2017, 3:00 – 6:00 p.m.

[Poughkeepsie, N.Y.] Barrett Art Center is pleased to announce that it will open Photowork 2017, its 30th annual national juried photography exhibition, on January 21.  Selected from over 800 entries, Photowork 2017 will showcase 63 photographic works representing a full spectrum of subjects and styles.

In celebration of three decades of high-caliber Photowork exhibitions, three jurors each selected photographic artwork for the show: Juror Isaac Diggs - a photographer and faculty member at the School of Visual Arts in New York City; Juror Rebecca Morse - Associate Curator of the Wallis Annenberg Photography Department at Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA); and Juror Robert Stevens - former Photo Editor of TIME Magazine and faculty member at the School of Visual Arts in New York City.

A trio of Mid-Hudson residents have been selected to join 42 other photographers representing 16 states in Photowork 2017.  Photographer Mark Lyon of Marlboro joins Karl Schmitz of Poughkeepsie and Marie Triller of Hopewell Junction as artists whose works have been selected for the exhibition.

During the Photowork 2017 exhibition, BAC will also host a Juried Members’ Show, featuring select works by BAC members from across the Hudson Valley.  Lynn Paumbo, Dutchess Community College instructor and Director of DCC’s Washington Art Gallery will serve as the  juror for the Members’ Show.

An opening reception for both exhibitions will be held on Saturday, January 21, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.  Jurors’ awards with cash prizes for Photowork 2017 will be announced at the reception, which is open and free to the public.  The list of prize winners and accepted entries will be posted on Barrett Art Center’s website after the opening reception at under Exhibits, Photowork 2017.  The exhibitions will be on view through March 4 at the Barrett Art Center at 55 Noxon Street in Poughkeepsie, New York.

Local photographers Mark Lyon (Marlboro, NY) and Marie Triller (Hopewell Junction, NY) will give illustrated artists' talks moderated by noted photographer Sean Hemmerle on Saturday, February 183-4:00 p.m.  Reception following. The event is free and open to the public.
