Barrett's Bootleggers Bash - Oct. 19, 7-9pm
Guest: $50 Supporter: $75 (listed in program) Patron: $125 (1/4 page ad in program)
Barrett Art Center's fall fundraiser, Barrett’s Bootleggers Bash, looks back to the era of the founding of the Dutchess County Art Association, known today as the Barrett Art Center. The early 1930s both spawned a bootlegging boom in the Hudson Valley and inspired Thomas W. Barrett, Jr. and a group of interested artists to form the Dutchess County Art Association. Today, Barrett Art Center carries on this mission to support community engagement with visual art through national and regional juried exhibitions and low and no-cost public art programs.
Barrett’s Bootleggers Bash include live musical entertainment and refreshments that celebrate the spirit of the era. Eleanor Charwat will speak about the history of bootlegging in the Hudson Valley, followed by an auction.
Did you know that Thomas W. Barrett, Jr. created playing card designs for clients that included Macy's when he lived briefly in New York City after graduating from art school? Attendees will take home a deck of playing cards with reproductions of an original Barrett design.
Proceeds from the event will help Barrett Art Center raise funds for historic research and architectural assessments that will enable Barrett to address restoration concerns and to prioritize future repairs.
