Why have an exhibit about Olin Dows at this time and what is the connection with Thomas Barrett?
It serves as a way Ada Harrison, who died in 2016, was a devoted supporter of historical organizations in Rhinebeck. She was a member of the Chancellor
Livingston Chapter D.A.R.; the Rhinebeck Historical Society; the Museum of Rhinebeck History; and Friends of Mills Mansion. Much of the research behind this exhibit was the result of her efforts to preserve the history of the Dows family.
The connection with Thomas Barrett is an artistic one. While Olin Dows made his home in Rhinebeck, Thomas Barrett lived in Poughkeepsie. Both men were native sons of Dutchess County.
