Join Thomas Barrett exhibition curator Martin Mahoney as he discusses his experiences in leveraging art and culture to fuel economic growth and positive change in both urban and rural settings. He will highlight current research on the superliner SS United States (currently docked in Philadelphia) and efforts to preserve and repurpose America’s flagship. Mahoney also discusses revitalization efforts in the Hudson Valley and the Berkshires that are using the arts as a key component in community building. Mahoney invites us to reconsider Thomas Barrett’s visions of, and for, Poughkeepsie, as examples of a prescient understanding of the role of the arts in comprehensive community vitality. .
